MORTON : PATTISON were employed by the developer to carry out site work alongside an ecological consultancy to discharge planning requirements related to protected species. Survey work had highlighted a great crested newt population in a garden pond adjacent to a site due to undergo redevelopment. The area of rough ground offered the potential for winter hibernation sites and it was likely that newts would be moving through the area returning to staging and breeding ponds. Works delivered consisted of installation of temporary exclusion fencing and pitfall traps to allow monitoring and translocation of the newt population from within the development site to ensure legal compliance.
